How to Commission a Work of Art If you're thinking about having me paint a portrait (or other specific image) for you, the process goes like this: 1. You contact me, describe your project, and get an estimated price. If you decide to proceed, then 2. You set up an appointment, sign a contract (agreeing to the project specifics, dates, payments, etc.) and make a down payment (usually 30%.) You will usually provide me with photos at this time, I may want to make arrangements to take more photos myself. 3. I provide you with a preliminary sketch/diagram of the work. You have the right to make changes at this time. Once we have both agreed on the details, you will make another payment (usually 30%.) 4. When the final work is completed, you pay the remainder of the agreed-upon fee. |
